My 4th of July Surprise

I apologize for being very MIA the past few days…it’s not like me. But, I had one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments happen over the holiday weekend:

I GOT ENGAGED!

Yes, this bog is about social marketing. Yes, it’s also about social media. But, for this small 300-word post, I’m going to share a BIG slice of my life with you. My favorite holiday is the 4th of July, and I just moved to Washington D.C. in January. My parents are my best friends and my boyfriend (now fiance) is the love of my life.

Jack Vettriano

Thus, the rents planned a 4th of July trip to D.C. for their first-ever visit to where I now call home. Little did I know that my now-fiance was plotting the whole time to pop the big question. A dinner cruise, a fancy red dress, the song ‘Lady in Red,’ (played by Dennis the piano player who learned the song just for this occassion), dancing and fireworks later….I was engaged. and it was all a surprise.

Life. Is. Great. =)

Thank you! Lots of ideas, nothing pinned down yet. Debating destination wedding versus more traditional….also wanting to utilize social media for all aspects of wedding planning too bc we both have family literally, across the country…East coast, west coast, north, down south, midwest…so, open to suggestions/tips =)

    Congratulations!

I was just at a friend’s wedding full of people’s personal digital cameras. It made me think of the following idea (which I’m sure has already been done by someone, somewhere!):

I would communicate a specific tag (“SocialButterflyWedding” maybe?) to everyone to tag their photos of the wedding on flickr. It sounds like you’ll have some sort of website for the wedding, so that’s probably the right place to mention it.

That way you’ll have an easy way to find all of your photos. You could even do it earlier so that pics of showers and other pre-wedding events are included, too.

Congrats on getting engaged! July 3 was our 15th wedding anniversary, and it just keeps getting better. Oh, and our first daughter was born July 4, so now we both have something to celebrate that day each year. 🙂

@Mamasita and @Stacy THANK YOU!! Can’t wait to share the big day with you and everyone!

@Janice thanks for the congrats, and @Kevin great idea! Do you have a particular photo/imaging app you prefer? Flickr over like shutterfly or photobucket?

@Jeffrey What a great day July 3 and the 4th are! That’s exactly what I told my grandpa when I shared the news with him, quote: I think life just gets more fun and more exciting the older you get! He responded saying Just wait. You couldn’t even imagine!
