“The story of the iPad has yet to be written.” <–Agreed. I’m not counting the iPad out by any means. This is one reason why I linked to the Mashable article as I find it interesting how the publishing world and how content is being repackaged and distributed across different platforms, including the iPad. And, the effects and implications of such transformation is definitely still to be realized.

I’m familiar with research that you refer to as well (i.e. The 90/9/1 Theory) about content consumers vs content producers. This is one reason why I also think our behavior and how we react to the transformation of publishing and distribution models will also have implications and help write that story.

Nice review. I actually have an iPad. I have no regrets about getting one. I purchased it because of the way I use my iPhone. I’m constantly using it to check Twitter, Facebook, news and listen to content. I’m a heavy content consumer (and sometime creator). But, if I have to measure the amount of time I spend creating content, it is heavily outweighed by the time I spend consuming it.

In addition, based on my understanding of how people consume media, the vast majority of people consume rather than create content. In my view, the iPad makes it easier for folks to do so. (In addition the lack of Flash is not a problem for the majority of the Web, as people are using text-related content, see this data summary for more on this http://pbeye.info/3HS.)

Overall, the story of the iPad has yet to be written. But, I wouldn’t count it out yet.
