In honor of #SocialGood Day, I wrote a post for the IQ Solutions blog reflecting on the TEDxChange event and calling for #OpenGood. (Disclosure: IQ Solutions is my employer.) Since posting, a number of things have happened that echo the themes from TEDxChange and this concept–giving cause that perhaps #OpenGood is more of a reality than an ideal. For instance:
- Barack Obama made the following statement during UN Week: “The strongest foundation for human progress lies in open economies, open societies and open governments.”
- In addition, friend Marc Drapeau recently wrote a fascinating piece on Open Government Entrepreneurship and the National Library of Medicine launched their new API portal.
- The World Bank took a step towards #OpenGood with its updated data.worldbank.org–releasing its data to the public for free.
- Signs of social innovation–the combination of doing good across sectors, markets and organizations while leveraging technology, data, marketing and innovative approaches–are becoming more frequent.
- The Huffington Post recently wrote about the growth of the social entrepreneurship field–and next month the social capital markets conference will take place.
Read more about what I mean by #OpenGood. At the very least, remember this: If we don’t start with asking “What if?” how do we get to “What next?”
