It’s not an either or situation.

People seem to be focused on childhood obesity to the exclusion of other things, but we really need to focus on sustainable food, more exercise, and anti-smoking campaigns.

And obesity versus smoking is silly. There are always going to be foundations who will jump on the popular opinion bandwagon, but what will sustain nonprofits is their grassroots and major donors.

Thanks for your comment Andre. Both articles definitely get the brain thinking. One item in the post that I didn’t go into but that also has me thinking is the “right vs. wrong” aspect of the NY Times article. I’d love to hear others’ opinions and reactions to that article especially.

Wonderful coverage of this issue Alex! I was reading that article and thinking mainly about all the money that gets put into other programs where there are often overabundance issues. When it comes to health – it has always been a slim pickings situation so this doesn’t surprise me. Like you mentioned, why not have it all and look at the main detractors of our nation’s health and pour resources into the plan. Great stuff.
